Online: Emotional intelligence

Being smart isn't enough

Do you want to learn to collaborate better with colleagues, relax faster, make contact with people more easily, communicate more effectively, and to make decisions? To be successful at this, you need emotional intelligence (EQ). By becoming aware of your own and others' emotions, you can communicate more effectively and improve your contact with others and with yourself. In this learning journey you'll work on the five components of EQ: self-awareness, self-control, self-motivation, empathy, and social skills. At the end of the learning journey, you'll have the tools you need to improve your EQ.

Do you come to the point much too quickly, or are you uncomfortable with small talk? Are you frequently at a loss for words? Do you ever feel uneasy at parties? Are you unable to say "no," and do you want to change that? These are all situations when it's difficult to keep control of your emotions. And that's exactly what this emotional intelligence training is about. Everyone has emotions, although not everyone is used to showing them. It might be strange or unthinkable for you to show your emotions in your environment. That doesn't mean you don't have them and have to deal with them. So choose the examples and exercises that work for you and are applicable to your own situation.

EQ can most easily be explained using practical examples, of which there are plenty in this learning journey. How do you deal with yours, and other people's emotions? And how do you handle habits? Besides the fact that you become more successful with an increased EQ, you also increase your happiness, empathy, and sympathy towards others. In other words, it's quite beneficial. You can improve your emotional intelligence. The more you practice EQ skills – for example, by consciously making changes – the stronger the connections in your brain will become and the easier it will be. Making changes trains your brain and increases your emotional intelligence.
